Petros Christoulias's profile

the mascot of Animasyros animation festival

When I was asked ten years ago to design the mascot of a new animation festival (Animasyros International Animation Festival and Agora) taking place in Syros island, the first image that rose up in my mind from the depths of the Cycladic history, was the Cycladic idol. This minimal figure without eyes led me to imply an eyesight by putting on it a pair of funny looking glasses. The triangular head and the glasses reminded me of a caricature of Woody Allen, a stereotype image of a film director. A best-suited image for a mascot of an animation festival. Along with Kostas Petrou that originally translated the 2d mascot into a 3d model, we created a small ten-years- anniversary promo-film.

The character was awarded in the greek design awards (ebge awards) back in 2009. Here are some of the original concepts.
For the ten-years anniversary of the festival a statue of the character has been also created.
